Thank you so much!
Ok, then my five favourite films which started here in Germany 2014 (so far):[[MORE]]
5. The Way He Looks (Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho)
Most of the time queer cinema is struggling with low budget, bad scripts and underwhelming performances. But this gem from Brazil managed to do everything right: Great cinematography, script, direction and superb actors despite its low budget. This is a marvelous movie about coming of age / falling in love for the very first time, and I left the theatre smiling like an idiot (as everyone else did, too).
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
For me the best superhero flick since the genre’s peak in 2004 with Spiderman 2 and The Incredibles. A genre which became quite formulaic with all-the-same looking CGI orgies and things just crashing into other things. CA2 is such a refreshing exception. The chemistry between the main actors is awesome, and finally I could follow the fights again - instead of editing just hundreds of different camera angles together and drown that mess with very loud music, the directors managed to make action sequences elegant and watchable again.
3. Edge Of Tomorrow
If someone would have told me that I would love a Tom Cruise (ew!) action flick which resembles the mechanics of a video game so much I would have laughed at him (or her). But this is so cleverly constructed (despite of too much CGI and despite of the ending which made no sense at all) and so well casted (TC is perfect in this role, and don’t get me started on Emily Blunt ♥︎), and I could watch this movie over and over again.
I’m failing to find the words for describing my feelings regarding this marvel of a movie. Just the most impressive movie I’ve seen in a while.
1. The Grand Budapest Hotel
There’s not a second in this film which isn’t perfection. Period.
With honourable mention of The LEGO Movie, Enemy, Under The Skin and Snowpiercer.
Thanks for your patience!
Long overdue replies
Sorry for my lack of participation here, it’s just too hot to sit in front of the computer.
